1. What are the eligibility requirements to become a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc?​
 

 

  • Regularly enrolled full-time or part-time status in good standing with the University of Pittsburgh

  • 12 Credit Hours reported in PeopleSoft.

  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative/overall GPA (though a 3.0 or higher is preferred).

  • Minimum 2.5 semester GPA prior to the semester in which membership is pursued.

  • Those students with at least twelve (12) transfer credits at the University of Pittsburgh as reported in PeopleSoft from another institution of higher education and no GPA are eligible for membership after a staff member from the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life will confirm their cumulative GPA from an official/unofficial transcript from a previous institution.

  • Attend a Fraternity and Sorority Life 101 session before recruitment.

NOTE: Fulfilling these requirements does not automatically lead to an invitation for membership. An interview is required to see if interests and the chapter are a good fit for each other for that given membership season. 
 

​2. Does Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. haze?​

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. does not tolerate hazing of any form.

Hazing is wrong, prohibited, and unauthorized.

3. Is there a fee to become a member of Sigma Gamma Rho? If so, what are the fees used for?​
 

Yes. New inductees pay for the first 2 years of membership at the beginning of, and during what we call the TORCH Process. After this period, there is an annual membership fee that is distributed to the local chapter, regional branch, and national organization. This fee helps to sustain the mission of the sorority so that we all can have the funds and materials to impact society and serve the world.​
 

​4. Is Sigma Gamma Rho part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council?​

Yes, Sigma Gamma Rho is a member of the nine Historically Black Greek Letter Organizations that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council. This council is composed of five fraternities and four sororities and Sigma Gamma Rho is proud to be a member working alongside the other organizations to make a difference. 

5. Are there rules against being a member of two Greek Letter organizations?​
 

Members of other organizations in NPHC, IFC, or Panhel may not become a member of Sigma Gamma Rho; however, members of academic or honorary Greek-lettered organizations are eligible.
 

​6. What are the necessary steps to pursue membership in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc?​

A. Research other sororities to affirm your decision to pursue membership with Sigma Gamma Rho. Sigma Gamma Rho is a wonderful lifelong commitment so you want to be sure it is for you!

B. Attend programs and service events on campus. We could always use a helping hand to make the world a better place, so get involved!

C. Network with the members of Sigma Gamma Rho. Come say hi, and get to know us. We are always open to new friends and we would love to meet you too!

7. Who is the contact if there is interest in joining Sigma Gamma Rho?

The Chapter Advisor is Soror Alyson Blackburn. The Academic Advisor is Dr. Katrina Knight. Both are members of the Delta Phi Sigma Alumnae Chapter.
